Privacy Policy

Effective from 3 May 2026

Prahran Publishing (ABN 19 018 340 643) is committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, and your rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

By using this website or purchasing from us, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

Who We Are

Prahran Publishing is a micro-publishing house based in Melbourne, Victoria. We publish literary fiction and sell physical books and eBooks direct to readers and through third-party retailers. You can reach us at info@prahran.press.

Information We Collect

We collect personal information only when it is reasonably necessary for our functions. The types of information we may collect include:

— your name and email address when you contact us or place an order
— your postal address and phone number when required for order fulfilment
— payment details, which are processed directly by our payment provider and are not stored by us
— information you provide when enquiring about rights, wholesale supply, or submissions
— your first name, last name and email address if you subscribe to one of our mailing lists, and your company or organisation if you subscribe to the trade list

We do not collect sensitive information (such as health information or government identifiers) and we do not collect information from children under 13.

Website Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Tag Manager (GTM) to help us understand how visitors find and use our site. These tools collect anonymised data about pages visited, session duration, device type, and approximate location. Google Analytics data is processed by Google in accordance with their privacy policy. IP addresses are anonymised before storage.

We also use Microsoft Clarity, a behaviour analytics tool that records anonymised session data — including mouse movements, clicks, and scroll patterns — to help us identify usability issues and improve the reading experience on this site. Microsoft Clarity does not collect personally identifiable information. You can learn more at clarity.microsoft.com/privacy.

If you prefer not to be tracked by Google Analytics, you may install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies — small text files stored on your device — to support analytics and to remember your preferences. The cookies set by GA4, GTM, and Microsoft Clarity are analytics cookies; they do not identify you personally.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some website functionality, but will not prevent you from reading our catalogue.

Mailing Lists

We operate two separate mailing lists. One carries occasional letters from our author Blair Purvis to readers of his work. The other carries trade news — forthcoming titles, terms and availability, and submission windows — for booksellers, librarians, reviewers and writers. Subscribing to one does not add you to the other.

Both lists are strictly opt-in, and we use confirmed (double) opt-in: after you submit the signup form you will receive an email asking you to confirm, and you are not added to the list until you click the link in it. That confirmation is our record of your consent. Buying a book from us does not subscribe you to anything.

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link that takes effect immediately and without explanation. You may also unsubscribe at any time by writing to info@prahran.press.

Subscriber records are held in Zoho Campaigns and Zoho CRM, services provided by Zoho Corporation, on servers in Australia. Zoho processes this information on our behalf under contract and does not use it for its own purposes. Zoho’s support and engineering personnel may access data from outside Australia; this constitutes a cross-border disclosure under Australian Privacy Principle 8, and we take reasonable steps to ensure the information continues to receive a comparable level of protection. Zoho’s privacy policy is at zoho.com/privacy.html.

We record which emails you open and which links you follow, so that we can tell whether what we send is worth sending. We do not use this to build a profile of you beyond that purpose.

We keep subscriber records until you unsubscribe. After you unsubscribe we retain your email address on a suppression list, so that we do not mail you again by accident.

How We Use Your Information

We use personal information collected from you for the following purposes:

— to process and fulfil your order and communicate about its status
— to respond to your enquiries, whether about orders, rights, or submissions
— to meet our legal obligations, including record-keeping requirements under Australian taxation law
— to improve our website and the services we offer
— to send you our mailing lists, where you have subscribed and confirmed that subscription

We do not use your personal information for direct marketing without your consent, and we treat a purchase as a purchase, not as consent. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

Disclosure to Third Parties

We may share personal information with third parties only where necessary to fulfil the purposes described above. This includes payment processors, postal and courier services, printing and distribution partners, and the email service that delivers our mailing lists. These parties are engaged under contractual obligations that require them to handle your information in accordance with applicable privacy law.

We may also disclose information where required or authorised by law — for example, in response to a lawful request from a government authority.

eBooks sold through third-party retailers (Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Google Play, Kobo, and similar platforms) are subject to the privacy policies of those platforms. We do not receive personally identifiable information about purchasers through those channels.

Data Storage and Security

Your personal information is stored securely. We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted transmission (HTTPS) for all data exchanged with this website.

We retain personal information for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, and to meet our legal and tax record-keeping obligations. Order records are typically retained for seven years in accordance with Australian taxation law.

Our website is hosted on infrastructure located in Australia and the United States. Where data is processed or stored outside Australia, we take steps to ensure it receives a comparable level of protection.

Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, or misleading.

To make an access or correction request, please contact us at info@prahran.press. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We do not charge a fee for access requests.

If you believe we have not handled your personal information in accordance with this policy or the APPs, you are entitled to lodge a complaint with us. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may refer the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

This website may contain links to external sites — retailers, distributors, authors, and others. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites, and this policy does not apply to them. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any external site you visit.
